My friend just won a JUNO award!

WOW!!! A HUMUNGOUS CONGRATULATIONS to my friends Meaghan and Jason Mingo for winning a JUNO award tonight! I'm so excited for them both. They completely deserve it! Meaghan you looked STUNNING!

Nathan and I don't have cable ( I know I know), so when it happened my Mom called me up right away, blasted the volume, I put the phone on speaker and Nathan and I heard the speech that way. My heart was pounding! I got emotional! SO proud of Meaghan for winning a JUNO award and I'm sure her world is just flipped upside down right now! Can't wait to hear all about her spectacular night!

Ya... I know a JUNO award winner.

Sleeping through the night!

Can I get a Hallelujah! My sweet baby boy is sleeping through the night. I can't believe it's actually happening. I thought I'd never see the day when Cameron would sleep all the way through the night without waking up even once. Astounding. That kid is constantly surprising me.

Unfortunately we did have to resort to "crying it out". I literally tried every other sleep method I could find. I'd read 5 books on the subject! I didn't want him to have to cry, but after only two nights of crying stretches (longest of which was only 1 hour), and semi-waking up he's figured it out and last night slept from 8:00pm to 6:30am! I'll take it! It's bliss I tell you. BLISS! This is so much better for him and for his health too! How much better for his development to be getting a full nights rest as opposed to getting up 5 or 6 times each night and needing help to fall back asleep!

Oh Hallelujah! Cam, I love you! Sleep, I love you too!

Adventures in Parenting

I can't take credit for this idea, but I really liked it so I'm trying it out.
Here are some of the things I've learned since September 27th, 2010:

  • A full nights' sleep is underrated
  • Baby's get everything (in every form...objects to sicknesses)
  • No words describe a mothers' love
  • Baby poop is a toxic waste that sometimes can't even be tackles by the strongest of detergents
  • Likewise, there are some 'blowouts' that NO diaper can contain
  • Nothing can compete with a baby's smile/laugh....and you'll do just about ANYTHING to get them
  • The human body is an amazing thing and can withstand more than imaginable
  • The soother is both a blessing and curse
  • Nursing is NOT easy...even after 5 months
  • I'd do absolutely ANYTHING for this little guy
What are some things that you've learned from being parents?

The Art Bug

Every now and again I get the art bug. The little Cavvy inside of me saying "Create something! Paint! Draw! Ink!" This time it's come back with a vengeance and I need to let go of some artistic energy.

First I'm going to get out the old oils and do a painting or two. Probably something with a somewhat "impressionistic" approach. That seems to be my style for oils, if I even have one. I'd also like to try some watercolours and inks. I LOVE working with these. I had the notion a while back to try my hand at nursery art: anything cute and sweet that would be fitting for a nursery. I also thought it would be fun/challenging to see if I could create something with a spiritual/scriptural theme; something from the Book of Mormon or Bible perhaps.

I'm blogging because I was hoping to get some input on subject matter. What should I paint/draw?! Who has some great ideas? I realize that about 2 people read this blog, which is entirely my fault since I've proved to be an inconsistent blogger. Nonetheless, ideas are ideas, even if I only get two.

Little artsy Cavvy is open to suggestions :)

Got Milk?

Is it possible that I could be out of milk already? Here's why I ask. I have a feeling Cam's hungry after he feeds. He eats for like 5 minutes or maybe a bit more on each side and kind of sucks himself dozy, but I can tell that he's just sucking and not swallowing after a while. Then when it seems like he's done, I take him off and burp him, but he cries after we're "done", which he usually doesn't do! He has wet diapers for sure, but far less dirty diapers. (This has all happened in the last couple of weeks or so.) Man! It's so hard to know what to do! Also, he's waking up more often in the night lately to eat (much to my dismay). I just feel like he's not getting enough! Does anyone have any idea as to how many ounces a breastfed baby should be eating at around 4 months? He eats about every 3 hours or so. Day OR night! aaahhh!!! He sucks on his fingers a LOT, but he's definitely not teething yet. The girls feel like they did before I even got pregnant. My nursing bras are way too big on me now. There just seem to be a lot of hints that I'm runnin' low. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I Love BBC!

I wanted to take this opportunity to share with everyone a passion of mine. I love a good BBC Drama Series! LOVE em! I discovered this passion when I happened upon "Cranford" which was playing on PBS. Nathan and I didn't have cable, but for some reason PBS came in perfectly clear. When you don't have any other options, anything that comes on PBS seems great! I fell in love with Cranford, and had to wait each week until the next episode came on (drag). After watching it I found all sorts of awesome series to watch! Here are my favourites in order:

1. Bleak House
2. Cranford
3. Horatio Hornblower
4. Return to Cranford
5. North and South
6. Wives and Daughters

They're SO good! The best part about them is that they've already aired on TV, so you can just get them from the library and watch them over a shorter period of time rather than waiting for a week to go by to watch only a little. I highly recommend any of these. If you have some time (who does really? I just MAKE the time = they're that good), get one and tell me what you think!
